Pinpoint is a high class racehorse who is owned by a syndicate comprising eight owners, including myself, plus Pendley Stables.

In 2006 he competed well in top handicaps over 7 to 10 furlongs. He won the £100,000 added John Smith’s Stakes at Newbury and then came 3rd in the Cambridgeshire.

Pinpoint started 2007 in fine style by winning his second Heritage Handicap, the Newbury Spring Cup off a handicap mark of 100. This was followed by a short head defeat in the Suffolk Stakes at Newmarket, and 4th in the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown. In his final race of the season he came third in a Listed race.

2008 was tougher for Pinpoint as he just fell short in Listed company. His best results were 3rd in a Listed handicap at Royal Ascot and 2nd in a high class handicap at Glorious Goodwood. Both over 10 furlongs.

In 2009 he is likely to be competing in similar contests, with a try at 12 furlongs part of the plan. He starts the season on an Official Handicap mark of 107 and with a Timeform rating of 116.

Pinpoint was bought as a yearling at Goffs (Ireland) Orby Sale on 24th September 2003 for 40,000 Euros. He is by the exceptional stallion Pivotal whose many successes saw his stud fee rise from £5000 in 2001 to £85,000 in 2007.

Pinpoint’s dam raced in Germany. She was placed in a five furlong Listed race behind the Portland winner Astonished after winning as a two year old. She is by the champion miler Warning. The pedigree is shown in the auction catalogue entry opposite.

In 2004 and 2005 yearling half brothers of Pinpoint sold at auction for 140,000 Euros (sire Grand Lodge and named Grand Entrance) and £210,000 (sire Danehill Dancer and named Ahoy). Both have won. His latest half brother to race Royal Defence has showed promise in his one run in 2008. His two-year-old half brother by Cape Cross is now in training at Pendley.
